Apple's new game to use the iPad and iPhone as a fever source

In general, the sound effects of portable devices such as mobile phones and tablets are only available as sounds, and sound quality is not mentioned. Even with hot Apple devices, the sound quality is not likely to be good. Of course, if you use a small speaker on your device to play, you can't talk about listening to music. But if we use the audio files stored on the iPad and iPhone to play, can an external amplifier with a fever have a higher fever effect?

Let's analyze the audio input and output schemes of the iPad and iPhone: the 3.5mm jack on the top of the iPad and iPhone, compatible with stereo output, and mono microphone input. The stereo output of this jack has been passed through a simple headphone amplifier circuit, which can directly push the earbuds and headphones. Similarly, the microphone input here has to go through a simple amplifying circuit. This microphone input is only suitable for voice and other purposes, and can not achieve recording. The sound quality of singing is required, and the output is also amplified by headphones, and the sound quality has been fixed at a relatively general level.

Look at the bottom 30PIN socket, in addition to the USB data pin, there are stereo input and output: the input and output here, without the amplification circuit, the quality is much higher than 3.5mm. But in terms of output, it has also passed the decoder (also known as DAC) inside the iPad and iPhone. Obviously, the quality of the DAC inside is not too good. What we need is a purely digital audio signal. After the fever DAC is connected to the audio system, there is no audio digital output on the iPad and iPhone. What should I do? Apple, which is known for its simplicity and high quality, naturally thinks of solutions. There are certainly ways to do it. It just wants you to pay more.

Next, the protagonist of this article appeared - AirPort Express (hereinafter referred to as AE). First of all, I sighed at Apple's products, which have always been simple and high-quality representatives. AE is small but feels good, and the workmanship is definitely much better than the more than 100 domestic wireless routers. The feel is also slightly heavy. I have seen the disassembly diagram because the internal shielding metal and other components are sufficient. Below is the plug that can be received, and the AC power of 100V-240V is directly inserted.

There is a network cable interface on the side, a USB port, and one is the focus of this article, the audio output port.

To put it bluntly, this thing is Apple's wireless router, but it is compatible with audio analog and digital output (in the same 3.5mm jack, it is a common stereo analog output port, but also a fiber output port), plus a USB plug-in printer can be Share the printer on the LAN. To be honest, as far as wireless routing is concerned, AE is not as good as dozens of Tenda or TP LINK wireless routers. Regardless of the dial-up compatibility and management perspective, routing dialing is not as stable as domestic routing, and management cannot pass through the browser. The only benefit is that it is compatible with Apple products. The most important thing for enthusiasts is high-quality digital audio output, and of course, the simple appearance and art-level design. Therefore, dial-up and WIFI are still good with old routers such as TP LINK, and AE is set up as a wireless client, and it is good to join the TP LINK wireless LAN. As long as you are in the same network, AE's functions can be used. And then the AE just plugs in, no need for a network cable.

In other words, the WIFI connected to the iPad is TP LINK, but the software that supports AIRPLAY will see the option to output audio to AE. Such as PPS, iPad's own IPOD player, and so on. In this way, through the fiber signal output by AE, you can get enough fever on the DAC and HIFI audio (of course, to have enough fever, do not play any MP3, AAC format music, at least Apple's lossless format ALAC Or WAV). Similarly, iTune can be output to AE on any MAC or PC in the LAN.

The fiber output of many of our CD players will illuminate as soon as the power is applied. Apple's things are different. After plugging in, if the network connection is normal, the LED on the AE will turn green and steady, but the fiber output is not bright, that is, there is no output. Even if the remote player is turned on, select the output to AE, the fiber head is still not bright, but when you press the player to play, the fiber will light up immediately, it will automatically turn off after the pause, which also reflects Apple's humanization and intelligence. Idea design. Although the fiber-optic emitter has a long life, Apple has thought of a longer life to extend the product. When the fiber is lit, the purpose of this article has reached more than half, and what DAC, amplifier, and speaker are left is not the scope of this article.

In addition, Apple is now launching a new AE, but a little more expensive, and a LAN cable interface, but I don't need these, the working class is enough, so I am the first in 2008. 802N wireless routing, but for AIRPLAY and shared printing is completely sufficient.

In addition, these features of AE are also applicable to iPhone 3GS and iPad 2.

Let's talk about the detailed setup steps below. To set up AE, you can either on the computer or on the iPad (the following settings are also applicable to iPhone 3GS and higher models), but you need to install a special setup software on your PC, the most convenient is on the iPad. Settings.

In the first step, plug the AE into the power, press the reset hole with the needle for 5 seconds, the LED flashes and then release, the AE will restore the default settings and restart. Ensure that there is a WIFI signal coverage of another wireless route in the AE environment.

The second step, enter the iPad "Settings", you can see that the "WIFI" option shows the WIFI connected to the TP LINK.

The third step, enter the WIFI option, you can see that in addition to searching for the current WIFI signal, the iPad also has more "Set AirPort Base Station" below. The following lists the AE currently found by the iPad, and selects "AIRPORT EXPRESS".

The fourth step, after selecting AE will collect relevant information, etc. It takes a little time, this time is patient waiting.

In the fifth step, the following interface appears. The default is “Create New Network”. If you do not select it, choose “Other Options” below.

In the sixth step, there are three options. By default, "Create a new network" is not selected. Select "Add to existing network".

In the seventh step, the WIFI signal that AE can search now appears, indicating that the receiving performance is good. The default is to tick the first one, we have to choose your own WIFI network name in the list.

The eighth step, set the AE password, you can do it at will, not the password of WIFI, but to set the password of this AE. After inputting, click Next.

In the ninth step, the network password box of the WIFI to be added appears, and the input is "good". Then there will be dozens of seconds waiting.

The tenth step is to successfully join the AE to the network. After joining the network, the LED on the AE turns green. AE was not found on the iPad, indicating that it was connected. At this time, use the computer or IPAD and other devices that support AIRPLAY to play, you can choose to output through AE!

Finally, talk about the quality of AE audio output. I used the Sennheiser MX361 into the iPad, played a song, and immediately inserted into the AE's 3.5mm jack, playing the same song. In contrast, the AE's analog output is better than the iPad's headphone output. The iPad output looks a bit thin. For the AE's fiber output, compare it to the sound card pair next time. But no matter what, with this fiber output, we have a lot of room to expand the sound quality of mobile devices, and at the same time get rid of the shackles of cable, this is our purpose!
