China has become the world's first energy producer

According to the latest data released by the National Energy Administration, the country’s installed capacity for electric power reached 1.14 billion kilowatts. The hydropower installed capacity reached 249 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world. Wind power installed capacity reached 63 million kilowatts, becoming the world's largest wind power. Photovoltaic power generation reached 7 million kilowatts. The scale of nuclear power under construction ranks first in the world. According to preliminary statistics, by the end of last year, China had become the world’s largest producer of energy.

Liu Tienan, director of the National Energy Administration, said at the National Energy Work Conference concluded recently that in the past five years, China has implemented a new round of reconstruction and upgrading of rural power grids, addressing a total of 4.45 million people without electricity. The completion of the Qinghai-Tibet network project ended the long-term isolated network operation history of Tibet Power Grid. A 100 MW cogeneration project was completed to improve the heating conditions of more than 70 million urban residents. The population of urban residents living with gas increased from 90 million to 230 million. The per capita electricity consumption increased from 273 kWh to 466 kWh.

Liu Tienan said that in 2013 China will increase the effective supply of domestic energy, optimize the development of coal-fired power, accelerate the construction of cross-regional transmission channels, and vigorously develop unconventional oil and gas resources such as shale gas and coal-bed methane to ensure that energy supply and demand are generally stable throughout the year.

In addition, it will also vigorously develop new and renewable energy sources. In the year, it will add 21 million kilowatts of hydropower capacity, 18 million kilowatts of wind power capacity, and 10 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power generation capacity.
