Cyanogen Special Browser Gello Experience: Enhanced Chrome

Speaking of Cyanogen, most people responded with the CM system the first time, and the Android third-party ROM CM compiled by the Cyanogen team was widely used and has always enjoyed a lot of praise. Previously, the Cyanogen team had stated that they wanted to develop a browser of their own. Now their products have come out and they are named Gello.

Gello browser is based on Chromium code (based on webkit kernel) development, its entire design language follows Google's Material Design, the browser's entire interface is also very similar to Chrome. However, compared to Chrome, Gello has added many small features, including page lookup, color status bar, night mode, LookLock, power saving mode, text zoom, and so on.

Gello's Page Lookup

We can use the “Find” function to perform text search on the page. The text retrieved on the page will be selected in color, and the retrieval speed will be almost instantaneous.

Gello's multi-window selection interface is in the form of a square card. After the bookmark is saved, the bookmark content can be edited immediately. The operation design here is still full of Material Design.

Color status bar

Gello's "color status bar" is described as the status bar will change the color based on the page being accessed. For example, on Taobao, the status bar's color changes to orange, and on the Bing page it adjusts to dark green. Jingdong is dark red, of course, sometimes the color recognition is also very urgent, for example, in the love of the machine when the page actually turned into a yellow ... ...

Let the status bar Gello browser automatically hide the URL bar when the page slides up and down. This time with the "color status bar", the whole style will be more harmonious.

Text size and scaling

In the set auxiliary function, the text size of the page can be zoomed and controlled. Compared with the zooming by hand, the directly adjusted zooming is more convenient and direct.

We simply tested Gello's power saving mode using the Nexus 6P (Snapdragon 810). In the two cases of power-saving mode and power-saving mode, the loading speed of the webpage does not have much impact. The CPU core and frequency control are similar, but also open four A53 cores. However, in the power-saving mode, the frequency of the four A53s will not run full frequency during the loading of the page, while the power-saving mode will basically be the case that all four A53 cores are full-frequency.

In fact, in addition to the above-mentioned several features, it also supports browser default search engine selection (Google, Bing, China Yahoo, Baidu) compared to Chrome, set auto-filled documents, and turned on the LookLock mode (described as preventing Other applications reading web page view content from this application will disable screenshots and so on.

Also in terms of speed, in the case of the Nexus 6P (Android N system), Gello's day spider score: 362.8ms, while Chrome is 598.6ms, Gello's day spider score actually exceeds Chrome.

to sum up

Gello browser is more like a multi-functional Chrome, the logic of operation is almost the same as Chrome, and the interface design is also very Chrome. We are using version 1.0 of Gello. According to the Cyanogen team, Gello is a browser specially adapted for the CM13, but it can actually be used on many models. It doesn't even require an Android 6.0 system, for example, one plus two. LG G4, LG G5, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, MX5, Charm Blue Note3, etc. are supported (millet 5 does not support).
