The stress of glass and plastic products has birefringence characteristics. That is to say, the stress of such products can divide each light of the polarized light into different constituent units, which in turn generate optical interference phenomena, that is, ripple patterns.

Under white light, this pattern is composed of colored corrugations; the colored pattern is produced by stress.
Rigorously speaking, two main stresses can be observed from the pattern difference of the sample being tested.

PSV-303 measures the stress of the pre-anneal/post-anneal glass products by observing the pattern and color, and then measuring the working condition of the annealing equipment. Eligibility criteria are generally set by the manufacturer.

The detection of plastic abrasive tools is more complicated, although the detection pattern is also caused by stress, but it is irregular. A similar situation occurs in glass products, which is called stress stretching. For example, a qualified abrasive tool will have a large amount of tensile release stress.

The role of full wave or color wave disk:
When testing glass samples, if you do not use a full wave disk, you can usually only see black or gray shadow patterns. Full-wave discs increase or decrease the full wavelength of a phase difference, resulting in a colored pattern that is easier to reason and interpret.
