IDC: Misunderstandings in Cloud Computing Implementation

Beijing, June 12 (Wen / Sun Ying) IDC data show that in 2011, the global cloud service market is about 28 billion U.S. dollars, and it is expected to reach 73 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, an average annual increase of 27%, which is about 5 times that of traditional IT. . As far as the Chinese market is concerned, in addition to the five pilot cities, 13 provinces and cities have released their own cloud computing strategies. It is estimated that if the plan is fully implemented, the amount of investment in cloud computing will reach 270 billion yuan.

According to IDC’s latest research report on China’s cloud computing market, Chinese users’ investment in building cloud computing infrastructure reached US$286 million in 2011, an increase of 42.0% year-on-year. IDC expects that China's cloud computing infrastructure market will continue to develop at a rapid rate, and by 2016 it will exceed US$1 billion.

Wu Lianfeng, assistant vice president of IDC China, pointed out that China's cloud computing market is indeed very hot, whether it is the government or industry users, enterprises, but there are many errors in the implementation of cloud computing: First, re-implementation, light planning and consulting, feedback from the CIO From the perspective of the situation, when cloud computing is implemented, there are few preliminary evaluations, plans, and consultations;

The second is heavy hardware and light software. When it comes to the cloud, it is to buy servers, storage, and network equipment. It only pays attention to server virtualization.

Third, focusing on concepts and light nature, cloud computing first originated in the United States, and the core was to reduce costs. However, CIOs reported that in fact, cloud computing did not reduce costs, but spent more money, which did not meet the original intention of cloud computing;

Fourth, re-innovation and light migration. Many CIOs believe that the cloud computing is to deploy new applications instead of traditional applications, and that core applications are rarely migrated to cloud platforms. In fact, it may be better to transplant original applications. , so that cloud computing can save investment.

In early May, IDC launched the “Guide to China’s Cloud Computing Infrastructure Construction” project. The project report will be formally released on June 15. Combining research on Chinese companies’ CIOs and global research experience, IDC hopes to adopt this report. It will play a leading role in China's cloud computing and construction, so that IT can better serve the company's core values, so that the nature of cloud computing - cost savings, innovation, a better match.

Through research, IDC found that most companies believe that the speed and flexibility of responding to building a cloud computing infrastructure are more important than reducing costs. Promoting business is more important than saving costs. However, at present, most of the domestic cloud computing projects do not have a clear purpose for implementation. Enterprises should have more purpose to implement cloud computing.

IDC pointed out that there are four steps to implement cloud computing: preparation, including data concentration, resource integration, system architecture; implementation, including enterprise-level virtualization, resource pooling; deepening, including management automation, resource automation; applications, including open APIs Application migration and development.

IDC senior research manager Zhou Zhengang said that cloud computing is a business model, not just a distributed architecture. The future development of cloud computing will be different applications corresponding to different platforms/architectures, positioning cloud computing infrastructure according to business needs; cloud computing The infrastructure still needs the system to provide RAS performance; enterprise-level virtualization is the foundation for building cloud computing; most applications running on the cloud computing infrastructure are legacy applications.
