Image processor application for car audio and video systems

It is very popular today to add video playback capabilities to car entertainment systems, and car entertainment systems are transforming from traditional monophonic systems to integrated systems with video, user manuals and navigation capabilities. Video display sizes range from medium 3" to high end 7". The displayed content usually includes analog information (such as DVD player or digital broadcast TV) and digital information (such as user multimedia interface and fun wallpaper). Figure 1 shows a car audio and video system. The features of Solomon Systech's image processor chip, the SSD1922, meet these needs.

Figure 2 shows an SSD1922 solution for automotive audio and video applications. Video and image content can be processed by the SSD1922 and displayed on a Delta or stripe type TFT via a digital screen interface. If the video source satisfies the BT656/601, the system design will therefore be simpler by reducing the video decoder.

JPEG images can be stored on the SD/MMC card via the SD interface. The JPEG file can be read from the SD card and decoded to the LCD screen through the LCD interface.

Figure 3 shows a block diagram of the SSD1922. The JPEG encoding block is used to capture images from a video source (camera or DVD input). It has hardware processing capabilities to display any JPEG image extremely quickly. The SSD1922 also supports dynamic JPEG format. The SD memory interface transfers the saved JPEG pictures to the SD card, and can also store any other data required by the microcontroller. Moreover, the SSD1922 provides two-dimensional graphics acceleration for a variety of menu operations, such as virtual display, portrait display, overlay display, hardware cursor display, line drawing, raster operation bit block transfer, color fill, color extension, and more. The built-in 256KB SRAM supports animation and JPEG graphics processing. Supports a maximum of 640 × 480 delta arrangement (200K) and 480 × RGB × 272 stripe pixel arrangement (255K). Video input does not always correspond to the display resolution of 1:1. The SSD1922 has a resizing feature that scales the image before it is stored in the built-in SRAM. Therefore, NTSC/PAL video sources with different resolutions can be displayed on the LCD screen.

In short, Solomon Systech's SSD1922 is a chip suitable for any car audio and video product application. Its valuable features and simple application design allow us to accelerate the launch of new products.
