The basic concept of the digital backend to be introduced today is Macro, the Chinese name macro unit. This is the most common unit in design. Macro is a broad concept. Usually we divide it into Hard Macro and Soft Macro. The hard core is our most common Hard Marco, including various IPs such as Memory, PLL, etc. His logic has been integrated in itself and is not visible to the core. The soft core is a layer of hierarchy containing logic, usually a partition of place&route. The picture below is a common hard macro.
Macro has his own separate lef, which defines its shape and the position of the pin.
