As the industry's demand for long-haul, low-power interconnect solutions supporting next-generation 28Gbps products and data center applications grows dramatically, Molex has announced plans to introduce a range of QuatroScaleTM designs for 100, 200 and 400Gbps products. The new QuatroScale solution is based on silicon photonic CMOS technology, achieving the longest distance and lowest bit error rate (BER) and the highest reliability of any 28 Gbps product on the market. The QuatroScale TM100GbpszQSFP+ ActiveOpticalCable (AOC) and onboard module solutions operate at power levels down to 1.5W at 100Gbps, but are capable of transmitting distances up to 4km. The low-power QuatroScale AOC provides achievable 1e-18BER performance—accumulated to run more than 3 billion device hours without module failure. The compact QuatroScalezCDTM AOC provides 16 bi-directional channels operating at 28 Gbps data rates, and data rates can be adjusted to up to 400 Gbps bandwidth.

The QuatroScale portfolio offers cost-effective installation solutions with unique performance to meet the market's needs for large distributed HPC data centers. In the summer of 2014, Molex plans to offer the following product samples based on its innovative silicon photonic optical platform:
