National Semiconductor (NS) has announced seven new products for professional broadcast video equipment. Engineers who develop video systems can design video devices with unique personalities by using these integrated circuits. These 7 new chips belong to the same series of products, and this series of chips is the most complete video chip on the market. Other products in the same series also have serial digital interface (SDI) circuits, high-precision timing circuits, and analog video chips. Low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) interface circuits, signal conditioning chips, high performance audio systems and power management products.National Semiconductor's seven new products are the industry's smallest and least jittery 3Gbps SDI clock restorer, the lowest power standard definition SDI equalizer, the lowest power standard definition SDI cable driver, and two sets of broadband Low crosstalk 8x4 analog crosspoint switch, industry's highest bandwidth/power ratio triple assembled op amp, and selectable gain buffer.
National's LMH0356 is the industry's smallest and least jittery 3Gbps SDI clock recovery with built-in input multiplexer. Each input incorporates a very low power FR-4 equalizer with a signal range of up to 30 inches. The LMH0356 chip's output jitter is only 0.09 UI (peak-to-peak), the industry's lowest level, and input jitter tolerance of up to 0.6 UI. The chip supports the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)'s latest 424M standard to ensure uncompressed 1080p high-definition broadcast video signals can be transmitted serially at speeds up to 60 frames per second. In addition, the chip is backward compatible with other high definition and standard definition clock restorers that National Semiconductor has introduced.
National Semiconductor is the only vendor in the industry to introduce a complete 3Gbps SDI family, including equalizers (LMH0344), clock recovery (LMH0356 and LMH0346), cable drivers (LMH0302), serializers (LMH0340), and deserializers (LMH0341) ) and the crosspoint switch (DS25CP104). All 3Gbps SDI products from National Semiconductor are available in both high-definition and standard-definition versions, all of which are pin-compatible, so system designers can complete a single design to meet different application needs. For example, depending on the highest data transfer speed required for high definition, standard definition or 3G, the required components can be plugged into the same board.
The LMH0356 chip supports SMPTE 424M, SMPTE 292M and SMPTE 259M standards and can transmit serial data at speeds of 270Mbps, 1.48Gbps, 1.485Gbps, 2.967Gbps and 2.97Gbps. The chip also supports the DVB-ASI standard if operated at 270 Mbps. In addition, the LMH0356 requires only a 3.3V supply and consumes only 440mW. The reference clock is provided by another low-cost 27MHz crystal oscillator. The chip is available in a 48-pin LLP® package and is half the size of competing products.
National's LMH0074 standard-definition SDI cable equalizer operates from 143Mbps to 540Mbps and supports the SMPTE 259M and SMPTE 344M standards. In addition, the chip automatically adjusts and equalizes the Belden 1694A coaxial cable up to 400 meters long, and the transmission distance is 50 meters longer than competing products, and the output jitter is only 0.2UI (typical). Operating at a supply voltage of 3V, the chip consumes only 208mW (typ) and is the industry's lowest power cable equalizer. According to human body model tests, the chip can provide up to 8kV (rated value) of electrostatic discharge protection, which is superior to other competitive products. In addition, the chip is fully backward compatible with National's LMH0044 high-definition equalizer and LMH0344 3Gbps multi-speed equalizer. The LMH0074 is available in a 16-pin LLP package.
National Semiconductor's LMH0001 is the industry's lowest power standard definition SDI cable driver supporting serial digital video equipment using the SMPTE 259M and SMPTE 344M standards. The chip can drive 75-Ohm transmission lines, such as the Belden 8281, Belden 1694A or equivalent, with data transfer speeds of up to 540 Mbps and a single 3.3V power supply, consuming as little as 125mW. According to human body model tests, the LMH0001 chip provides up to 5kV (nominal) ESD protection, which is superior to other competing products, ensuring that the system cable does not repeatedly connect or disconnect. Operating over the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, the chip is the only standard-definition SDI cable driver on the market with this capability. The LMH0001 chip is available in a 16-pin LLP package.
National's LMH6580 and LMH6581 chips are fully buffered, non-blocking, 8x4 analog crosspoint switches that feature video resolution of 1600x1200 (UXGA) or higher. The two chips offer 1x and 2x fixed gain, respectively, with a signal bandwidth of -3dB to 500MHz, and the gain flatness up to 100MHz can be maintained at 0.1dB, thus ensuring sufficient bandwidth for any video system. In addition, if the input frequency is 100MHz, only -52dBc crosstalk interference will be generated between channels, so video artifacts and shadows from adjacent channels can be minimized, which helps to improve the sharpness of the picture. Each of the buffer outputs of these two chips can drive up to two 75-Ohm video loads with terminal devices on the back. Both the LMH6580 and LMH6581 are available in a 48-pin TQFP package, and the pins are symmetrically distributed on both sides of the diagonal, making the circuit design of the double-sided board easier and adding new features in the future. Both chips belong to the latest model of National's 550MHz analog crosspoint chip family, and there are other models in the family, including the 16x8 LMH6582 and LMH6583.
National's LMH6733 is a single-supply, 1GHz three-pack operational amplifier, while the LMH6734 is a 925MHz three-package optional gain buffer. Both chips are suitable for high resolution video systems. With an input frequency of 320MHz, the LMH6733 offers the industry's highest bandwidth/power ratio of 153.8MHz/mA and the industry's highest gain flatness of 0.1dB. The LMH6733 has an extremely wide input voltage range and an excellent output voltage swing, making it ideal for supply voltages from 3V to 10V. Operating at 5V, each amplifier consumes only 5.5mA. The gain of the LMH6733 chip can be set externally, and the setting range is between 1V/V and 10V/V, thus ensuring stable and reliable operation. With a gain of 2V/V, the LMH6733 provides 600MHz bandwidth for large signals (2Vpp), making it suitable for many high-resolution video equipment such as video matrix switchers as well as conference room communication systems and KVM systems. The LMH6733 is available in a small 16-pin SSOP package.
The LMH6734 is an optional gain high-speed buffer with -1x, 1x and 2x internal gain options. It is designed to support ultra-high resolution video systems with a gain of 2x. Provides -3dB 560MHz bandwidth for large signals (2Vpp). Because the LMH6734 provides high bandwidth for large signals and requires only 5.6mA of supply current per channel, it is ideal for low-power broadband systems or broadband devices that must drive component analog and high-resolution video, including Matrix switchers, conference room communication systems, and video equipment that transmit signals using Category 5 (CAT5) cables. The LMH6734 is available in a small 16-pin SSOP package. Both of these chips are part of National's high-performance analog video chip family. Other products in the same family include amplifiers, crosspoint switches, multiplexers, video converters, and sync separators, such as the LMH1980 and LMH1981.
Samples of LMH0356, LMH0074 and LMH0001 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2007. The three chips are all purchased with 100 units. The LMH0356 chip has a single price of $32, the LMH0074 chip has a single price of $10, and the LMH0001 chip has a single price of $4.25.
The LMH6580 and LMH6581 chips are available in volume and are priced at 100 units, with a single price of $13.95.
