ON Semiconductor Introduces Constant Current Regulator for 1W LED Lighting Applications

ON Semiconductor expanded its lineup of constant current regulators (CCR) with the NSI50350A. Designed for automotive, architectural lighting and signage, this simple yet rugged device offers high thermal efficiency and cost-effective options for passive/discrete components or driver integrated circuit (IC) solutions for LED current regulation. A variety of 1 watt lighting applications.

The NSI50350A CCR incorporates self-biasing transistor (SBT) technology to stabilize current over a wide voltage range. Designed with built-in LED drivers, it provides a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) feature that protects the LED from thermal runaway under extreme voltage and current conditions. The 350mA ±10% steady-state steady current (Ireg) is ideal for driving 1.0W LEDs.

Because the NSI50350A does not require external components, it can be designed as a high-side or low-side current regulator. The high rated anode-to-cathode voltage (Vak) of 50 volts (V) allows the device to withstand voltage surges common in automotive, industrial and commercial signage applications. When only 0.5 V of Vak is applied, the device turns on immediately, reaching 20% of the full current.

The NSI50350A is available in DPAK-4 (NSI50350AD) or SMC (NSI50350AS) industry-standard packages that dissipate 11 W and 5.8 W, respectively.
