Gaogong LED Industry Research Institute (GLII) previously released a report that in 2012, the scale of LED display market in mainland China increased by about 10% year-on-year to reach 100 million yuan. Among them, the market size of full-color LED display increased by 15% year-on-year, and shipments increased by about 30% year-on-year.

At present, the gross profit margin of LED display manufacturers based on channel marketing has dropped to 10%-15%, while the gross profit margin of engineering channels is still above 20%. Even so, the profitability of the manufacturer will continue to be weakened.

"The LED display industry is still in a situation of arrogance and arbitrage. The fierce market competition has forced manufacturers to take the initiative to cut prices and grab orders." An industry insider admitted.

Domestic LED manufacturers mostly stay in the stage of purchasing IC chip assembly. The price reduction means that the high-end IC chips originally used are likely to be abandoned due to price cuts.

According to the reporter, the three key performance indicators of refresh rate, gray scale and luminous efficiency are still the main criteria for evaluating the quality of LED displays.

Among them, the refresh rate is related to the rate of screen update, usually expressed in Hertz (Hz). The higher the refresh rate, the more stable the picture display and the smaller the flicker. For cameras and camcorders, the LED display needs a higher refresh rate, otherwise a black line will appear on the captured image, which will greatly reduce the advertising effect of the advertising owner.

Gray scale refers to the different gradation changes of various colors in the middle of the darkest and brightest colors. If the grayscale is insufficient, the color will be insufficient or the gradation color gradation will not be smooth enough.

Luminous efficiency is the percentage of time that the LED bead is effectively illuminated during the data period. The high luminous efficiency represents the ultimate performance of LED lamps. For example, with 10,000 Nits LED lamps, when the luminous efficiency is 99%, the brightness of the LED display can be 9,900 Nits. At present, many LED display companies on the market use LED lamp beads with low luminous efficiency. In order to improve the brightness, they often solve the problem by increasing the current flowing through the LED lamp bead, so it is easy to shorten the life of the LED lamp bead.

"Using a high-efficiency IC driver chip, it is possible to increase the luminous efficiency of the LED lamp bead without increasing the current. This not only improves the lamp life but also reduces the cost of the power driver."

From the current technical maturity of the entire industry, there are few display companies that can achieve two high levels. Everyone relies on sacrificing refresh rate and grayscale indicators to improve the brightness of LED displays.
