Fairchild Introduces New Boost Switch

Fairchild Semiconductor's FAN7340 and FAN73402 Single-Channel Boost Controllers with Integrated High Voltage Dimming MOSFETs Enable Designers to Achieve Higher Efficiency in High Power Lighting Applications such as LED Backlight for 3D TVs and Displays Efficiency, better performance and better reliability overcome these challenges.

These backlight-driven boost switching devices use a current-mode control topology with programmable slope compensation to prevent sub-harmonic oscillations. These devices have an internal dimming and analog pulse-width modulation (PWM) design to overcome the short-term degradation of the DCM boost converter with fast PWM dimming response.

Both devices have integrated protection features such as under voltage lockout, open LED protection, and overvoltage protection to minimize component count. In addition, if there is an abnormality in the LED string, these devices will also generate a delayed fault signal to achieve error protection.
