David Hsieh, vice president of NPD DisplaySearch Greater China, said that Apple's next-generation iPad mini screen supplier may include Taiwan's Innolux. Both Innolux and Shenchao Optoelectronics have certified products from Apple and can supply touch panels for the iPad mini.
Yang Chiu-lien, head of Innolux's touch panel division, said the company's focus this year will be on smartphones and tablets, with the goal of supplying 7-inch displays during the year. Since 2008, Innolux has been supplying touch panels for Apple's full-size iPad. This year, Innolux's panel will have touch-on-display technology, which will help Apple get rid of the problems of the iPhone 5 in-cell display.
Although Apple and Samsung’s patent cases in court are still not harmonized, Samsung is still a supplier of many parts in Apple products. Apple is also increasing the diversity of its suppliers, hoping to get rid of its dependence on Samsung early.
