Toshiba Corporation of Japan has announced that it has reached an agreement with American lighting industry giant Bridgelux to acquire the assets related to Puri's white LED chip business, and to accept its R&D department and researchers.
Toshiba said the agreement with Puri included technology and asset purchases, and Puri's R&D department and researchers were also accepted by Toshiba. After the completion of the acquisition, Toshiba will use Puri's silicon-based GaN technology and its own semiconductor mass production technology to enrich its own white LED lighting products, and expand the mass production scale to achieve the effect of strengthening competitiveness.
Toshiba expects the scale of the white LED industry to continue to expand, reaching 1.12 trillion yen by 2016.

Toshiba has worked with Puri to manufacture white LED chips from Puri's industry-leading GaN-on-Silicon technology and to release white LED bulbs for lighting in December 2012.
