Stepping into the new step of the second and second, the technology giant will strive to open up new battlefields every second.

With the increasingly fierce cloud computing market, user needs are constantly changing, technology is iterative, and companies from all sides are beginning to explore new battlefields. The future cloud service is bound to be a fierce competition, and the outcome is still unknown. But it is clear that users are definitely the biggest beneficiaries.

With the changes in user needs and the iterative updating of technology, the competition between giants has never been “stable”. A few days ago, Amazon took the lead in proposing a per-second billing model; followed by Google, which also announced a per-second billing; at this time, Microsoft said it was a "first mover." As the giants step into the "secondary cloud" era, users will undoubtedly become the biggest beneficiaries.

Stepping into the new step of the second and second, the technology giant will strive to open up new battlefields every second.

Amazon proposes a per-second charging model

With the increasingly fierce competition in the cloud market, cloud computing companies are turning to new battlefields. On September 19th, Amazon Public Cloud Services Amazon Web Services announced that from October 2nd, the company will charge customers in seconds using its EC2 virtual server.

This will have a significant impact, since AWS has been billed on an hourly basis since its launch in 2006. While billing in seconds may mean that some businesses will eventually pay less for certain workloads, this change may also lead companies to be more cautious when using EC2 in certain types of computing. It can be said that this is Amazon's classic initiative to reduce market prices to gain market share.

Google implements charging by the second

In fact, in order to deal with AWS's hourly billing solution, Google Cloud has provided monthly fee-based billing for some service providers like Microsoft Azure. After Amazon introduced a one-second charging model, on September 26, Google also announced that it would implement a per-second billing on Google Compute Engine, Container Engine, Cloud Dataproc, and App Engine.

Although Paul Nash, product manager of Compute Engine, Google Group, pointed out that there aren't many customers who are asking for billing per second. If you increase billing accuracy, billing by minute can help customers save costs. But last week, Amazon AWS evangelist Jeff Barr said that customers such as games and advertising technology could benefit from billing in seconds. In the case of a short burst of traffic, the billing per second can help large customers save money. So Microsoft also entered the era of charging in seconds.

Microsoft calls itself a "first mover"

In fact, Microsoft introduced a per-second billing service earlier this year, but it targets processing containers, a new technology that is not as widely used as virtual machines. So far, Microsoft has not announced a similar move.

"Azure Container Instance (ACI) pricing model is actually consistent with the no-service concept. The memory duration is calculated from the start and end time of the container, and we only charge for this time interval, so it can be said that ACI is 'press "The forerunner of the second charge." Corey Sanders, director of computing for Microsoft Azure, said, "I am happy to see other clouds are also emulating, providing customers with more flexible pricing services."

As for whether Microsoft will announce the use of the per-second charging model, it is still unpredictable, but if Microsoft enters, the biggest beneficiary is naturally the user, under the same service, there will be more choices.

It is worth mentioning that the domestic cloud service provider rookie Qingyun QingCloud has proposed the cloud service per-second billing scheme in 2013. However, other cloud computing giants in China, Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud, have not yet acted on the second-per-second billing. In the future, the cloud dispute will develop into a situation that is not yet known.
